 Frequently Asked Questions
What is the System Data Area? What is the LS Area?

The GP has a block of internal addresses called the LS Area. (16 bit: word addresses)
Some of these addresses are pre-defined for specific uses. Others can be programmed at the user's discretion.

LS Area Contents

Where the fundamental information about the GP, such as clock data and screen number, is stored. By default, this information is written into the PLC and can be accessed there.
Used with Video displays and Trend graphs to write additional information into the PLC.
This area is for the user to define Parts, Tags, and D-Script addresses.
Stores special status information such as communication cycle time.
GP Internal Use only - not for user defined addresses.
Additional user defined addresses for Parts, Tags, and D-Script. (In the ST and GP77R models this area only goes up to LS4095.)

What is the System Data Area?

The system data area (LS0 to LS19) stores the GP's basic information such as clock data and the currently displayed screen number.
As the LS area cannot be monitored directly by the PLC's ladder program, this data, by default, is written into the PLC's data register starting with the "System Start Address". This is done so that the PLC can use this data in the PLC's logic program. This feature can be disabled if desired.

For the details of the system data area, refer to the PLC Connection Manual (PDF):
  - When connecting to a PLC or Inverter --> Direct Access Method ( PDF:248KB)
  - When using the Memory Link Method --> Memory Link Method ( PDF:747KB)
